Everardo Sosa-Mendoza loves to cook, and he loves to eat. The ambitious native of Oaxaca in Southern Mexico moved to America as a teen – and he’s now raising a family with his wife, Maria, in the historic City of Schenectady. With few nearby options to satisfy their yearning for a taste of home, the pair opened up La Mexicana Restaurant alongside the La Mexicana Grocery that carries ingredients from South and Central America. Maria’s family recipes offer the savory flavors of Jalisco in Central Mexico – Everardo’s tastes feature the influence of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. Together, they present the Capital Region with a rare opportunity to sample the true, traditional flavors enjoyed in Mexico.
